Scott Morris, Classical Guitarist
Scott Morris made his New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 1998 and has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America, Europe and Asia including festivals in Spain, Germany, England, Austria, Mexico, China, and the US.
He has released five commercially available CDs including Invocation (Arabesque Records), Danza (Arabesque Records), and The Guitar Music of Paganini (Centaur), working with longtime Neil Young producer Niko Bolas. He has also performed and recorded with artists as diverse as Steve Perry (ex-Journey), Martin Chalifour (LA Phil Concertmaster), and Jeff Young (ex-Megadeth). His recording Phonology (AIX Records) and is a collection of his original arrangements of Erik Satie for solo guitar, guitar and English horn, and guitar and voice. Phonology includes performances with Grammy-winning guitarist and composer Andrew York, among others.
Dr. Morris is half of the saxophone and guitar duo “Chika & Scott” along with Chika Inoue. With multiple successful tours of the US and Europe, they are active performers. Concerts are scheduled next year in the US, Europe and Asia. They recorded their first album Unfettered (Samek Music London) at Capital Studios in Hollywood, California with famed producer Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Melissa Etheridge, David Crosby, LeAnn Rimes, and Warren Zevon), with additional production support from 23-time GRAMMY-winner Al Schmitt and Steve Perry (ex-Journey).
His guitar method book series, Classical Guitar Complete: from Basics to Bach (Volumes One and Two) focuses on college-level guitar instruction with an emphasis on technique, reading, guitar history, and music fundamentals. The books, published by MidShelf Music lead to more than 30 instructional videos produced by GSI (Guitar Salon International), which are available on YouTube.
He directed the 2007 Guitar Foundation of America Convention and served as the Course Coordinator for the annual CSU Summer Arts Guitar Course in Granada, Spain for five years. He has been a member of the music faculty at California State University, Dominguez Hills since 2004 and currently serves as the Supervisor of Guitar Studies.
